Innovation creates demand for upskilling, says Executive Director at EU Innovation Hub event

CEPOL Executive Director, Montserrat Marín Lopez participated, as keynote speaker, at the EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security Annual event, organised on 3 October in Brussels in cooperation with the CERIS Community (Community for European Research and Innovation for Security). The event brought together approximately 180 participants, including policy makers and law enforcement officials, as well as representatives from research organisations and EU-funded R&D projects.
Topics of discussion included:
- the role of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) in enhancing or delivering new capabilities;
- how AI ‘regulatory sandboxes’ can be used to develop, test and validate AI-based tools in full compliance with EU regulations;
- the challenge of encryption and access to data; and
- ensuring the uptake of innovation stemming from EU-funded security research.
Speaking during the high-level panel session, Ms. Marín Lopez acknowledged that the combined efforts of the Hub’s members, and working together as a team, have been the driving force behind the success of this initiative. She also reiterated CEPOL’s commitment to continue contributing to the Hub’s activities, within the scope of the agency’s Strategy 2023-2027:
