Child Sexual Exploitation – CEPOL reiterates its commitment to continue the fight

Commemorating the European Day on the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, and World Children’s day, the EU Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) reiterates its commitment to continue supporting the fight against child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, thus helping protect some of the most vulnerable members of our society. CEPOL achieves this by offering EU law enforcement officials training opportunities to help them enhance their knowledge and skills and stay ahead of this scourge. CEPOL not only delivers training, but also contributes to the development of a network of law enforcement officials specialised in combatting Child Sexual Exploitation at EU-level that will continue to cooperate across borders.
Online child sexual exploitation is constantly evolving, as technological advances can also become available in the wrong hands. Law Enforcement officials need specialised training to stay ahead of such crimes. The CEPOL Cybercrime Academy (CCA), inaugurated in 2019, has as its main priority the design and delivery of training programmes specifically targeted to law enforcement officials fighting cyber-related crimes, including online child sexual exploitation and abuse.
This year the CCA delivered 3 onsite activities on Child Sexual Exploitation: Course 26/2023/ONS Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) on the Internet - Undercover Operations, Course 27/2023/ONS Child Sexual Exploitation – Victim identification and 28/2023/ONS: Strategies in tracing Child Sex Offenders, and online activity 3003/2023/WEB ‘Guidelines for law enforcement first responders on child sexual abuse cases’. Furthermore, recognising the importance of protecting the mental health of law enforcement combating CSE, on 27 November CEPOL is organising webinar 3004/2023/WEB: Combatting child sexual exploitation: Impact on welfare of law enforcement officers.
CEPOL’s Law Enforcement Education platform, LEEd, offers registered users a number of relevant recorded webinars covering different topics on CSE, such as:
