Webinar 32/2019 'Big Data Analysis'

The overall objective of this online training event is to enhance knowledge on the big data analysis in the context of financial crime investigations.
The webinar will concentrate on sharing practical working experience of the German Federal Police (Bundeskriminalamt) obtained during the automated analysis of the Panama Papers. The first part of the webinar will introduce the principles of big data analysis with a focus on the fundamental approaches for analysing large amounts of text data. This will also include an overview of how to prepare the data for the analysis, and how to deal with large amounts of text data encoded in various formats.
The second part will focus on practical working experiences made in the context of the Panama Papers analysis. The following issues will be highlighted: Which analysis needs had to be covered by internally developed tools due to the lack of available commercial tools? Which particular analysis techniques were used and what are the lessons learned?
While the contributing experts will mainly focus on working logic and the analysis techniques during their presentation, they will also shortly cover police management issues in order to provide an idea on the level of investment and expertise required in big data analysis initiatives.
