Online Course 2019/2025/ONL: European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS)

The aim of this online course is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the functionalities of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) and its integral role in enhancing law enforcement practices.
Upon completion of this training activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the high-level architecture and the main functionalities of ETIAS as well as the different roles and responsibilities within ETIAS.
- Describe the interaction of ETIAS with the other large-scale information systems (EES and VIS in particular) as well as interoperability components such as the CIR.
- Associate the interoperability components between ETIAS and other EU large-scale IT systems.
- Compare the similarities and differences of ETIAS data with API and PNR data.
- Survey the risk profiles and indicators: meaning, update, contribution of National Units, including fundamental rights elements such as the non-discrimination safeguard.
- Identify the role of law enforcement for maintaining the watch list in the functioning of ETIAS.
- Explain the fundamental rights opportunities and risks when accessing and processing ETIAS data and be able to apply the relevant safeguards.
- Analyse the role of carriers in the proper function of ETIAS and assess the response given to the carrier queries.
Learning Format
- Scheduled live online sessions (mandatory).
- Course materials include mandatory readings and pre-recorded sessions.
- Final assessment (quiz) is required for obtaining the Certificate of Completion.
In addition to the live sessions, which will involve 3 to 3.5 hours per day, the participants are expected dedicate time to read through the study material before and during the training, to benefit more from the activity.
Since participants will be assessed based on their attendance and the successful completion of the final quiz, trainees are encouraged to actively participate in the morning live sessions by submitting questions and engaging in fruitful discussions.
The course will be held entirely in English, therefore it is essential that nominated officials possess appropriate language skills (at least B2 level). The entire activity will be carried out online hence the physical presence of participants will not be required.

Selected participants have to be registered to CEPOL's Law Enforcement Education platform LEEd where the online activity will take the place.
