E025/2025/EXB Strategic approaches to policing in sports events

The aim of this training is to inform law enforcement officials about the experiences gained during the CEPOL Exchange Programme.
By the end of this exchange-bite, the audience will be able to:
- Learn about the differences in best practices between countries;
- Understand how the exchange contributed to personal and professional development;
- Identify the possibilities that an exchange can give;
- Compare different approaches to police cooperation;
- Strengthen the professional capacity and awareness of EU-level cooperation mechanisms;
- Recognise the value of the CEPOL Exchange Programme for the law enforcement officials;
- Understand how the training for return operations and document examination is managed in Croatia and the Netherlands;
- Gain insights about international cooperation regarding training activities;
- Strengthen awareness of the need for international cooperation and for sharing knowledge and skills to support capacity building in the Western Balkan countries.
This Exchange-bite will also highlight:
- The role and functions of the Portuguese Proof House;
- Best practices for using and cooperating with the IBIS and I-ARMS systems across countries;
- A comparison of sports event practices in Bulgaria and Ireland, including organisation, security measures and key similarities and differences;
- Policing football matches, comparison between Portugal and Poland, focusing on tactical techniques, police procedures and fan behaviour;
- how public order police respond to large public order demonstrations and riots;
- The equipment, training and tactics used by riot control units in Portugal.
