39/2026/ONS: Artificial Intelligence

28-2026-ons

The emerging use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in police investigations is transforming the way authorities detect, analyse, and respond to complex threats. At the same time, criminals and hostile actors are increasingly exploiting AI to produce and spread AI-driven crime schemes more efficiently, making it harder to recognise and counter.

The primarily goal of this training is to enhance police authorities’ understanding of artificial intelligence tools and its impact on both society and police operations. AI-driven crime schemes have become a growing concern, affecting political stability and social cohesion. Participants will be empowered to identify AI-driven schemes early, analyse its extent in various settings, and assess its potential future course. This training will also present AI-based support tools that assist in detecting and analysing AI-driven crime schemes. By leveraging these tools, participants will be better equipped to implement timely and effective responses, including recommending suitable police measures to mitigate the influence of AI-driven crime schemes on public safety.

Combatting new forms of organised crime requires more cooperation between police and gendarmes, customs officers, border guards, judges, and prosecutors. EU institutions, agencies and Member States work together to tackle organised and serious international crime through a permanent and key instrument: the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).

CEPOL plays a crucial role in the EMPACT mechanism through the provision of specialised training and the identification of training needs within each common security threat. Every year, CEPOL provides a comprehensive training package for each common EU crime priority consisting of onsite, online and exchange training activities.

Check more of CEPOL's EMPACT training activities here.
