83-2022-course

The CEPOL onsite activity 83/2022/ONS: Public Order - Crowd Management and Security during Major Events, started today in Lisbon, Portugal, and will run until 25 November 2022.

The Portuguese Guarda Nacional Republicana, through the School of Guard and the Intervention Unit, organises this training activity under the umbrella of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL).

The course aims to facilitate and improve cooperation between European Union (EU) Member States and their law enforcement agencies, enhance the exchange of information and increase knowledge. This can be achieved by sharing experiences in the area of law enforcement and public security, and by sharing and reflecting on the recent evolution of crowd and riot control forces, regarding their characteristics, structure, organisation, equipment, doctrine and level of engagement in operational situations.

It also aims to help enhance the skills of specialists in maintaining public order, taking advantage of the national and international experience, lessons identified and learned, and to support an integrated development, aiming to be collectively better prepared for future challenges.

This CEPOL onsite training course has 29 participants from different Member States and Third Countries, such as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey and Portugal.

The course is based on theoretical and practical training sessions given by renowned national and international speakers and trainers, whose recognised professional performance reflects the excellence of the teaching-pedagogical environment.

These sessions will be focusing both on the theoretical and the practical component, through the application of practical exercises and the approach to several case studies. This will allow the sharing of acquired knowledge and experiences, thus contributing to a unified vision of fighting crime  across Europe.

The Course will also feature a joint exercise between the Portuguese Guarda Nacional Republicana and Polícia de Segurança Pública, representing the national capacity to face up to crowd and riots management scenarios.
