From 6-10 November 2023, the Luxembourgish Police hosted CEPOL activity 75/2023/ONS on “Forensics – emerging technologies” at a venue in the centre of the city of Luxembourg.

During this 5-day course, 12 expert trainers from Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Luxembourg shared their knowledge and expertise on forensic sciences with 25 participants representing law enforcement agencies from all across Europe. The training activity had 12 sessions and covered the below main topics:

1. DNA phenotyping - exploring phenotyping in between MS and discussing legal and ethical aspects.

2. Biometrics and facial recognition - exploring the use of biometric data and biometric databases in forensic science

3. Forensic intelligence – exploring the use of forensic intelligence and its benefits in  case work

4. Reporting and Prüm II - evaluating reporting with ENFSI guidelines and discussing the regulation on automated data exchange for police cooperation.

The overall aim of this onsite training activity was to convey knowledge about existing technologies in the field of forensic sciences in order to strengthen the efficiency of forensic case management and to broaden awareness of ongoing developments and initiatives at EU level within this field. Aiming to convey state-of-the-art knowledge to an even broader audience, the Luxembourg Police is delighted to be able to host the same activity for a second time in the third quarter of 2024.
