Experts from 21 EU Member States with broad experience in Schengen evaluation missions took part in this activity.

Participants learned the key principles of a Schengen evaluation mission and how the different types of missions are prepared and carried out, and discussed leadership and conflict management issues in this field. They also increased their knowledge on this topic through visits to Vienna’s international airport, the Police Cooperation Centre and the local police station.

Trainers from the European Commission and Austria delved into the new SCHEVAL (Schengen Evaluation Group) mechanism to assess how the signatories of the Schengen Treaty comply with the rules, and explained the evaluation methodology.

The course fully met participants’ expectations as per the feedback obtained. “Trainers gave us a perfect blend of theory and practice, and the organisation was also excellent”, stated one of the students.
