The EU Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) participated last week at the 5th meeting of the EU Support Hub for Moldova, an initiative launched to curb the security threats posed by Russia's continuing war of aggression against Ukraine. The meeting, held in the margins of the Home Affairs Council on 10th March 2023, provided the occasion to take stock of the results of the Hub in countering those shared security threats.

Since its launch six months ago, the Hub has intensified the cooperation between Moldovan and EU law enforcement agencies and Member States. The Republic of Moldova is one of the countries most hit by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its internal security is confronted with many vulnerabilities, especially linked to malign Russian influence, the spread of transnational organised crime and increasing hybrid actions.

CEPOL contributes to the priority area related to the identification of the needs of Moldovan authorities in terms of capacity building for law enforcement officials and the prevention of serious and organised crime through the provision of specialised training.

Part of the meeting was devoted to discuss a roadmap of the Hub for 2023 with actions to improve Moldova’s crisis management capacity, to early detect emerging trends and patterns of transnational crimes, hybrid threats and incidents, among others.
