Topcop regional training in Budapest

On 19-23 September, the TOPCOP project delivered a weeklong training on cyberattacks, cryptocurrencies, online payment frauds and malware for 24 law enforcement representatives of the Eastern Partnership countries in Budapest, Hungary.

The aim of the regional course was to enhance the knowledge of participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova on fighting high-tech fraud. In particular, the course targeted the different forms of cyberattacks in the fields of Dark Web, cryptocurrency and online payment fraud, and trained law enforcement officials on the methods to tackle them. They also got equipped with skills to utilise open source intelligence (OSINT) tools and techniques as an integral part of their investigations.

The course highlighted the role of international cooperation in carrying out a successful cybercrime investigation and underscored the biggest challenges related to cross-border exchange. Furthermore, the participants learned about the EU’s joint efforts to fight criminal offenders orchestrating cyberattacks, including online payment through the intelligence- and analysis-led platform of the European Union, the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal ThreatsArrow icon (EMPACT).
