Officials from EUROMED Police partner countries convene in Jordan for training course on combatting document fraud

MDS_8459

Document fraud is a serious crime that enables offences such as drug trafficking, migrant smuggling and human trafficking, but also constitutes a huge source of revenue for organised criminal groups. Tackling this type of crime can lead to increased safety on both sides of the Mediterranean. To this end, the EUROMED Police project organised a training course on combatting document fraud for law enforcement officials from Jordan, Israel, the Palestinian Authority and the Arab Interior Ministers' Council.

The activity took place last month in Amman, Jordan, and the 19 participants of this sub-regional training gained an understanding of the subject matter including practical exercises during which the officers enhanced their skills on how to identify and counterfeit forged ID documents.

The training activity also had a strong focus on the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal ThreatsArrow icon (EMPACT) priorities, as two guest speakers from the French National Police delivered lectures about European initiatives to combat document fraud. Countering this type of offence constitutes a common horizontal strategic goal in the fight against all criminal threats.

Mr Didier Martin, the EMPACT driver from the French National Police highlighted the importance of training in the field of document fraud, urging police services to enhance their capacities in fighting this type of crime.
