JHA Counsellors discuss CEPOL’s response to the EU Security Union political priorities and challenges

CEPOL JHA Counsellors event 2024 Brussels

On 21 February 2024, the EU Agency for Law Enforcement Training held its annual Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Counsellors event, organised every year by the CEPOL Liaison Office in Brussels. It offers a valuable opportunity for CEPOL to inform representatives from EU Permanent Representations, the European Commission, as well as partner agencies and organisations, about the agency’s latest accomplishments and future endeavours.

Opening the event, the Executive Director, Ms Montserrat Marín López provided an overview of CEPOL’s main achievements in 2023, with a particular focus on the agency’s response to the European Security Union political priorities and challenges.

CEPOL strives to serve the EU law enforcement community by delivering specialised, quality training at EU-level and beyond, so that law enforcement officials can acquire new skills and capabilities to stay ahead of crime,

As we enter the second year of implementation of our agency’s strategy, we are ready to explore new paths and enhance our response to emerging training needs and challenges. With an ever-changing EU security landscape and the global character of serious and organised crime, we are well aware that this journey requires our full commitment and willingness to go beyond our limits, with a readiness to learn and adapt quickly to unexpected situations. Exchanging views and experiences with our internal and external partners has been and always will be a key element of success.

By 2027, CEPOL aims to be the EU hub for law enforcement training, foster a common law enforcement culture through training, and promote accreditation of law enforcement vocational training. With this aim, CEPOL is reprioritising its activities and reallocating resources to become more effective in its support to the EU law enforcement community, while aligning its efforts to the priorities that stem from EU internal security policies. Within this context, CEPOL invited participants to take the floor and express their views and suggestions on how the agency can better respond in the future to policy developments and adapt to the ever-evolving law enforcement ecosystem.
