EUROMED Police trains law enforcement of the EU’s Southern Partner Countries to fight drug trafficking

Drug trafficking is one of the biggest illegal businesses, bringing in a fifth of all profits from organised crime in the EU. It endangers civilians and communities while also having a negative impact on the economy. To help our counterparts from the Southern Neighbourhood, the EUROMED Police project organised an online course on drug trafficking. The activity took place entirely on the EUROMED Knowledge Base, the project’s dedicated learning platform, from 17 to 28 October and involved 22 participants from law enforcement agencies from Morocco, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and the League of Arab States.
The two-week course focused on special investigative techniques to combat drug trafficking such as controlled deliveries and handling informants, new trends and developments in drug production, the application of analysis to investigate drug crimes and international cooperation opportunities. The training addressed both advanced and basic levels.
The learning strategy of the online course allowed the participants to work in an asynchronous environment, but still benefit from the guidance of the instructors and experts who moderated the discussion, corrected the final assignments and delivered lectures during the live sessions.
The material will stay available on the EUROMED Knowledge Base in the future as the platform aims to constitute a repository of resources for law enforcement officials from the project's partner countries.
