CT INFLOW organises workshop for Jordanian and Lebanese law enforcement to enhance the prevention of terrorist attacks

Over the past few decades, terrorists have shown increasing interest in targeting Critical Infrastructures (CIs) to advance their goals. Key water infrastructure, dangerous materials, transportation networks and the energy sector are all exposed terrorist groups, posing significant threats to the citizens. To mitigate this risk, the CT INFLOW project organised the “Reducing the vulnerabilities to terrorist attacks” workshop between 12-16 December in Porto, Portugal.
At the five-day long course, 18 officials from the Jordanian and Lebanese law enforcement agencies exchanged their experience on counter terrorism. Besides three CEPOL experts from Belgium, Spain and France, a law enforcement expert from the host country offered insights to the participants. The activity successfully increased the officers’ knowledge on information exchange in order to minimize the risk of terrorist attacks, with a specific focus on soft target protection and fusion centres.
“Through international cooperation and information sharing, participants will be able to provide a better service to their communities. A comprehensive approach to protect critical infrastructure and soft targets will increase their capacity to deal with terrorist threats” - emphasised CEPOL expert Victor Perez Sañudo.
Earlier this year, the Algerian, Libyan, Moroccan and Tunisian law enforcement agencies, along with the delegates of AFRIPOL and the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ASCRT) also participated in a similar French language event.
