A high-level delegation from Moldova, headed by the Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA), Adrian Efros, visited CEPOL, the EU Agency for Law Enforcement Training. CEPOL's Executive Director, Montserrat Marín López, met with the Moldovan Minister to take stock of past achievements and discuss present and future actions.

Recognising the strategic role that Moldova plays in maintaining the internal security and border management in the Eastern neighbouring region, the Executive Director of CEPOL stated:

We are committed to take our long-standing cooperation with Moldova to the next level by sharing our expertise to further extend the capacity of Moldovan law enforcement officials to fight against new forms of crime that have arisen in the region, such as firearms trafficking, cybercrime or hybrid threats.

CEPOL-Moldova cooperation spans more than 10 years. Formalised in 2012 with the signature of a working arrangement, the partnership has grown stronger, while many paths have been explored to reinforce the rule of law in the country and ensure its adherence to the highest EU standards.

For over a decade, Moldovan law enforcement officials have been taking part in CEPOL's training activities to enhance their skills thus improving cross-border cooperation, while fostering the creation of networks of professionals beyond borders, also within the frame of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT). CEPOL’s law enforcement education platform, LEEd, is open to Moldovan law enforcement officials.

The meeting today reaffirms CEPOL and Moldova's close relations while it sets in motion EU4 Security Moldova project. This new project, which will be implemented until October 2026 with a budget of 5.5 million EUR, is the result of the strong collaboration nurtured under CEPOL’s TOPCOP project.  Funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, it aims to improve the capacities of law enforcement for the delivery of professional security and migration services for the benefit of Moldovan citizens. The project will strengthen the operational capacities of the Moldovan law enforcement authorities and will enhance their education and training.
