On 29 September, CEPOL organised at its premises a high-level event for diplomats accredited to Hungary, representatives from the Hungarian authorities and EU partners. The aim of the event was to update the high-level representatives regarding CEPOL’s achievements and activities, within the scope of the agency’s mandate, and propose ways to find further synergies and enhance cooperation in the field of law enforcement training.
Opening the event, CEPOL Executive Director, Montserrat Marín López, expressed her gratitude for the fruitful cooperation with EU organisations, Member states and neighbourhood countries. She also thanked the Hungarian authorities, on behalf of the agency, for their cooperation and constant support to CEPOL’s activities.
“Law Enforcement training and education enhances skills at all levels. It bridges gaps, creates bonds of trust and facilitates the exchange of best practices, all key elements of success in cross-border operations. Training is a long-term investment that contributes to the development of our common law enforcement culture, placing the respect of fundamental rights at the very core of our activities, thus ensuring a professional response in the treatment of victims, vulnerable groups and citizens in general. CEPOL is ready to respond to the challenges of the future, by becoming more focused and agile in its approach. We are looking forward to continue working closely with our partners in the EU and beyond, in order to offer the best possible training opportunities to the law enforcement community in the upcoming years”, she noted.
At the event, the guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with the agency’s mandate and understand how it delivers training activities to law enforcement officials in the EU and beyond. They were informed about the agency’s current training portfolio, comprising of online activities offered via the online learning platform, LEEd, onsite activities organised in the EU Member States, as well as the CEPOL Exchange Programme. The Agency’s work in the field of research and analysis was also highlighted, particularly the importance of the EU Strategic Training Needs Assessment in the development of CEPOL’s training offer, i.e. the latest EU-STNA report that was released earlier this year and the CEPOL Research and Science Conference 2022, which took place in Vilnius in June 2022. CEPOL’s cooperation and synergies with other EU bodies and agencies was also noted, with a particular focus on the current presidency of the Justice and Home Affairs Agencies’ Network.
CEPOL’s Head of International Cooperation informed guests about CEPOL’s externally funded projects that encompass activities aiming at building skills and knowledge sharing between law enforcement officials in the EU and in neighbouring regions and contribute to the fight against serious and organised crime. Furthermore, beyond the capacity-building projects, the agency also cooperates with 17 non-EU countries via working arrangements, enabling law enforcement officials from these countries to participate in CEPOL training activities, including LEEd, the online learning platform for law enforcement officials.
The event also allowed for a short introduction of CEPOL’s strategic vision for the future and how the agency is evolving to respond to the emerging training needs and challenges.
